Students can progress through the programme in a way that best supports their age, confidence, and stage of development.
The first two courses - Intro To Assisting and Confidence & Connection - are designed with two distinct pathways:
First Steps (Learning & Observation) – for ages 11–13, this pathway is focused purely on learning, observing, and building foundational knowledge. It is ideal for dance schools who are not permitted to have under 14's assisting, or where child work permits would be required. There is no assisting in class at this stage. Instead, students within their own class, develop key understanding around communication, class structure, and the role of a teacher, preparing them for future progression.
Assisting – typically for ages 14+, for students who are ready to begin supporting within other classes and gaining practical assisting experience. It is suitable for dance schools where assisting is permitted or where child work permits are in place.
If a student begins on the First Steps pathway, they do not need to repeat the course when they are ready to assist. They simply move forward to the next level, building on the knowledge and confidence they have already developed.
Our advanced courses – Learning to Lead and All Age Teaching – are designed for ages 14+. Younger dancers can continue progressing through First Steps and introductory levels until they reach the appropriate age.
This flexible structure ensures every Future Dance Teacher can grow with confidence, developing skills at the right time and in the right way.
